Karen Constant, Assistant Concertmaster
Karen Constant holds her M.A. in violin performance from the prestigious Bucharest Conservatory, Romania. She started studying violin at age 6, and by the age of 16 her performing career was already taking off. While competing and winning both national and international awards she pursued her studies in Weimar, Germany, with Galina Barinowa, and in Gstaad, Switzerland, with Yehudi Menuhin. She performed numerous concerts as soloist with orchestras and chamber music ensembles, recorded for radio and television, and toured extensively throughout Europe. She was a member of the National Radio Television Symphony Orchestra, in Bucharest. Upon immigrating to Canada she took a position with Montreal Symphony Orchestra. In 1989 she joined the Regina Symphony Orchestra. Karen balances the duties of Assistant Concertmaster with those as a teacher at the Conservatory of Performing Arts. Concurrently, Karen remains an active solo performer. She is married to Yleesh Constant, well-respected Associate Composer of the Canadian Music Centre, cellist and pianist. Together they have performed in many recitals and she has premiered many of his works. They have twin daughters, Jennifer and Linda. |
